Our Jempson’s Budgens supermarket in Rye raised over £400 for local charity Rye and District Community Transport by way of the store’s annual Christmas raffle.
The volunteer run charity provides transport for all sections of the community and is highly valued by the community it serves.
Rye store manager Andy Jackson said “I am so pleased that we are able to support this worthy organisation. I would like to thank all our customers for supporting this raffle and prize draw”.
Andrew Jempson added “This is an independent local charity and is not part of the council or social services, therefore funding is essential to cover operating costs, so it gives us tremendous pleasure to be able to make this contribution to them”.
Pat Hughes from Rye and District Community Transport concludes ‘It is with enormous gratitude that we are able to receive this cheque, our thanks go to the Jempson’s Budgens staff as well as their customer who so cheerfully participated’.

We where delighted to be able to welcome the winners of our ‘Find our missing Gold Reindeer’ competition to the Peasmarsh Superstore recently.
During the run up to Christmas 9 Gold Reindeer where ‘lost’ around the store, and whilst parents where shopping, the children had to find their whereabouts. If all 9 where found and named correctly too, a Lindt Chocolate prize could be won.
We received an absolutely fantastic response, and the three winners chosen from Santa’s hat where Tom, Eloise & Sky, who are pictured with their parents and Jempson’s Nigel Carter and Mandy Hall, with their fabulous prizes, a box rammed full of delicious Lindt Chocolate goodies !!!
Well done !!

We are absolutely thrilled & delighted to be featured by one of Britian’s most successful businessmen – Sir Richard Branson in his new book ‘Screw Business as Usual’.
The book asks the question are businesses aware enough of their social responsibilities, in which Sir Richard cites several companies as exemplary business models… including, yes you’ve guessed it, Jempson’s !!
It is an honour to be recognised for our efforts to marry business, ethics & the community.
With inspiration for everyone, ‘Screw Business as Usual’ shows how easy it is for both companies & individuals to embark on a whole new way of doing things, solving major problems & turning our work into something we both love & are proud of.
We where also fortunate enough to be spoken about by Jean Oelwang from the Virgin Unite Charity on her recent appearance on BBC Breakfast television with Sir Richard to promote the launch of this book.

The book is on sale now & available in-store.

ITV news recently reported that a slice of bread from a quarter of all loaves in the UK contains as much salt as a packet of crisps & that cutting this level by half could save thousands of lives per year.
At Jempson’s bread making is an integral part of our heritage, we craft & create from scratch thousands of loaves of bread a week across 20 varieties. We are delighted to state that the current salt content in our bread is below government target levels.
Master Baker Arthur Gorham & Stephen Jempson have been working with the Foods Standards Agency & East Sussex Trading Standards since mid 2010 to identify ways on reducing these salt levels even further, but are naturally very keen not to compromise on the all important taste.
Stephen Jempson said ‘Our bread is made to the same recipe that my Grandfather used when he established the business in 1935, our experienced craft bakers have been very careful to stick as much to this as possible, nevertheless we have adopted incremental reductions in our bread’s salt levels to allow for gradual adaptation of our customers’ palate’. He continued ‘Bread is an important part of our daily diet, our aim is to use our knowledge & experience in baking to make a difference to the health of our customers, whilst maintaining the high quality of our bread that they have come to know & expect’.
‘Beautiful Battle’ a voluntary community team who actively create & maintain gardens, planters & hanging baskets within the historic market town received a £250 donation from The Jempson Foundation as a contribution towards the tidying up process of Market Square.
Stephen Jempson said ‘Market Square is one of the main pedestrian entries into Battle & the forecourt to our Jempsons Budgens supermarket’ he continued ‘Beautiful Battle arranged for the grass mowing to be done, four volunteers tend the garden areas & a delightful plant bed has been added outside the store, they have absolutely transformed the area & we are delighted to make this contribution towards the upkeep of the square’.
Simon Alexander Beautiful Battle Chairman said ‘It is always a pleasure to work closely with our sponsors & the evidence is readily visible in Market Square’.
